THE BOOK OF PROVERBS: MAY 2020 DEVOTION

An intricate analysis.
Shalom Family,
Thanks for accepting the call to corporately study and share. We will be doing one chapter a day. I encourage as many as can, to read, study, meditate and share a thought/s from your devotion. May the Lord bless our devotions. Key Verse: Proverbs 1:7 The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.

Proverbs 22

Day 22 .

Overview

Verses: 29
Theme: Various Wise Sayings
Lessons
✅ Verse 7 Borrower is a Servant to the Lender
We must pray for Africa to come out of the challenge of huge national debts. We have seen how “expedient” loans from China have become “expensive” in our lives. Poverty can strip your dignity. But debt can also. Or so I believe. At a personal level, watching your appetites is a great step to staying out of debt.
✅ *Verse 10 Scoffers
A scoffer has been established as the cause of contention, strife, and reproach. And God is saying cast them out!
✅ Verse 15 The Rod of Discipline
We are in the age where our mothers rods have been set aside. We tell our errant children to “go to the corner and think what they have done!” Surely, if the bible says foolishness is bound in heart of a child, how will they reason to “sense” without the rod? But again, sisi niwale tuliptie!

Commentaries

Ciruu Kiniti: Proverbs 22

There's a game my son likes to play... it's called "would you rather" and when I read verse 1 in today's passage I remembered the game. I wanted to ask myself the question of would I rather have riches over a good name but was quick to remember that the Bible is not giving me options but commands 😁... it's not a game.
I also love 13...the lazy will always find an excuse...and oh sometimes don't I know this too well...
And what keeps getting my attention is about the references that are repeatedly made in almost all chapters of Proverbs. It got me thinking, especially when Pastor had asked us to define or expound on the term "poor". It's amazing how passionate God is about the disadvantaged in our communities. This is where His heart is... but how do I treat them?
When I read V 29 I immediately thought of a certain close relative of mine (won't name names 😂😂) but I've seen the discipline he has towards his business and how true this verse is because I see it working for him daily. And long time I used to wonder why is he so lucky? Why not me? Then I realized after careful consideration that it wasn't luck. He had invested in his skills sharpening himself paying the price and now is able to enjoy some of the gains in V.29.
Oh that I may learn from others 😉
