Shalom Family,
Thanks for accepting the call to corporately study and share. We will be doing one chapter a day. I encourage as many as can, to read, study, meditate and share a thought/s from your devotion.
May the Lord bless our devotions.
Key Verse: Proverbs 1:7
The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.

Overview
✳️ Verses: 18
✳️ Theme: The Ways of Wisdom and the Ways of Folly Contrasted
✅ Verses 1-12 The Way of Wisdom
✅ Verses 13-18 The Way of Folly
Highlights:
❇️ Wisdom works or is active - Builds (vs.1); A home maker (vs.2); Sends/Entreats for counsel (Vs.3).
❇️ The other "woman" , folly, is also at work! - Positions to trap (Vs. 14-15).
❇️ Vs. 7-8 One of the mistakes we make (I have made!) is to "rebuke, reprove or correct" scripturally those who either don't know God or know God and have chosen otherwise. They are called wicked, mockers or scoffers! Wisdom counsels that we don't engage with scoffers, mockers or the wicked. This counsel is reinforced in Matthew 7:6, thus "Do not give that which is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, for they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces...."
❇️ Stolen Waters and bread eaten in secret (Vs.17) One of the things wrecking marriages today is unfaithfulness. Stolen waters and bread eaten in secret is an idiom for unfaithfulness or any illicit sexual affair. Water and bread are needful but water and bread that are ill gotten will not benefit. They only produce death (vs.18). The symbolism is intentional as to introduce legitimate consumption of what God has authored. The simple definition of righteousness (right standing with God) is doing something when God says, where He says, with whom etc.. . And that also defines legitimate "consumption" . . Selah and shalom.

Pastor Obed can I just say that I have learned a lot from everyone sharing on Proverbs. Can I confess that I've read this on another WhatsApp platform 3 times but I didn't get a quarter of what we've shared so far. It's like I am reading Proverbs for the 1st time. And for me the difference is that people are sharing their perspective and you've taken your time to share with us and correct us where we see it differently.
Thank you again.

I love today's Scripture and the contrast between Lady Wisdom and the loose lady.
See how Wisdom who has built a house sets a table and invites all who desire for this feast. She's willing to turn lives around.
She strategically sends out her handmaids to cry out and make invitations.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom.
Look on the other hand, the loose woman. She is noisy and reckless in her behaviour calling out to those who pass by.
Pastor @Obed Pastor is it correct to deduce that both Wisdom and lady Loose are calling out for our attention and we get to choose where we go? Eg the choices we make daily?
Obed Pastor: Wow.. Thanks counsel 🙏
Shalom sis..
Definitely.. There is never a vacuum..
If there is an authentic voice calling out a fake is also on standby.. 🙏 🙏

Continues to show the difference between those who walk in wisdom and those who don't in different scenarios and their reward.

Chapter 9 of proverbs.
-We see wisdom calling for those who are unwise to eat and drink what she has prepared, and the reward is, they (I) will live, and walk in understanding.

Proverbs 9
- the difference between wisdom and folly continues to be highlighted
-some few warnings also come out. One that stands out for me is VS 17- 18
“Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!” But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.

Thanks y’all for sharing your takes from the Proverbs. Joining from Yesterday’s chapter 9:
"Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. - Proverbs 9:5
Look how the above is similar to Isaiah 55:
1 "Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.
3 Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. - Isaiah 55:1-3
God is earnestly calling to us, wanting us to turn to Him even after we’ve turned our backs on Him severally He lovingly leaves the 99 sheep and goes after that one that has strayed...
37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!
38 See, your house is left to you desolate.
39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'" - Matthew 23:37-39
"Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant." - Proverbs 9:17
See this is the same lie that Satan used to entice Adam and Eve, remember they had been given everything they needed yet the devil still lied to them that they were starving and needed more...
God promises us more than what this world would give us if we only believed, yet we settle, we settle for silver and gold and all that we can see, yet that which is unseen is greater and that is God Himself the maker of all these things, oh how we sadly for so much less!!!
Indeed: Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight." - Proverbs 9:6
