Thanks for accepting the call to corporately study and share. We will be doing one chapter a day. I encourage as many as can, to read, study, meditate and share a thought/s from your devotion. May the Lord bless our devotions.

The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.

Overview on the Book of Proverbs.
Solomon Schools, institutes and universities are built to provide platforms for professors and the learned to teach about life and the world. They are places for knowledge. Yet beyond knowledge (accumulation of information), there is wisdom! Wisdom is lived out knowledge based on understanding (accurate perception of meaning). Schools, institutes and universities will give you knowledge (facts) but there is a place of God that offers truth based on His knowledge and wisdom.
The book of proverbs is a book of wisdom. It is a collection of practical insights and guidelines for life which Solomon, Agur and Lemuel wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit; a holy mixture of common sense and timely warnings.
A proverb is a short, concise phrase, sentence or saying that conveys a moral truth. The book of proverbs is a collection of moral truths for daily living.

Outline:

  1. Wisdom and folly contrasted (Wisdom for young people) - Chapters 1-9.
  2. Proverbs of Solomon (Wisdom for all people) written and set in order by himself - Chapters 10-24.
  3. Hezekiah’s collection of the Proverbs of Solomon (Wisdom for the leaders) - Chapters 25-29.
  4. Oracle of Agur (unknown sage) - Chapter 30.
  5. Proverbs of King Lemuel (from a mother) - Chapter 31:1-9.
  6. Epilogue on the Ideal Wife – Chapter 31:10-31.

  1. The wisdom of God comes when we fear him( when we believe in Him)
  2. Helps you make the right decisions and know which way to choose at any particular time.
  3. Wisdom makes your ways stable and secure because of the knowledge you have of God.
  4. Anyone can be a beneficially including the simple
